I just wanted to say that one of these stylists is my personal stylist and my hair is completly natural (I had a perm but my hair started to break off and it just wasn't good) and he handles my hair excellently! my hair is healthier than ever and looks better than ever. If anything now I rely on him now more than ever because I like going because he can do my hair in a way that no other stylist is able to and I can't get my roots the way he can and my hair is REALLY curly. Plus I want to keep it healthy and I noticed that when visiting his salon (Charles Gregory - Al Scott) my hair looks and feels healthy and I get compliments everywhere I go. I like the way that makes me feel and I don't feel like he makes me feel bad about my natural hair at all but sees it as a good thing. I can't really comment on the movie because I havn't seen it but I wanted to show that the motives might be deeper than just the stylists being afraid of people going natural.

Relaxers/Perms are bad and they DO cause scalp burns, breakage, and they are damaging to hair.
This is all true. The claims are not unfounded.

This guy is just mad because Chris Rock showed how the cosmetics industry sells us products such as relaxers and weaves that cause so much damage to our hair by having us believe that our natural hair is not good enough.
Also the movie didn't even touch on the subject of how many hair stylists get sick each year from inhaling harmful chemicals when styling so many heads of hair on a given day.
Dwight Eubanks is a hair stylist. He like so many other stylists are afraid of their bottom line being affect because of so many women now going natural.
"If they are made to believe perms are bad, they may decide to go natural and eliminate their stylist."

Why don't hair stylists learn healthier hair styling techniques such as rollers sets which are much better for the hair than a 400 degree hot comb? Or encourage women to wait longer between relaxer visits and not perming at the first 1/4 inch of new growth?

The African American consumer is more informed these days and black women are making more educated choices about their diet, what they put on their skin and what they put on their heads...
We have seen first hand the damage that relaxers cause and our hair follicles being destroyed by braid and weave extensions. Now we are loving our natural hair and don't have to rely on a hair stylist every 6-8 weeks.

Relax Dwight, the need for a hair stylist will never be eliminated completely. Women with natural hair still need color, cuts and trims.

Dwight Eubanks and others with this mindset that they will lose business need to learn new ways to deal with educated consumer instead of trying to keep us in the dark...that is not the answer
Also Ralph says Chris Rock didn't visit any upscale salons - What about Elgin Charles Salon? That is a black owned salon in Beverly Hills.....are you mad that Chris didn't visit Purple Door for the movie?

Please take a moment to check out my documentary film BLACK HAIR

It is free at youtube. 6 parts including an update from London, England.

It explores the Korean Take-over of the Black Beauty Supply and Hair biz..

The current situation makes it hard to believe that Madame C.J. Walker once ran the whole thing.

I am not a hater, I am a motivator.

Plus I am a White guy who stumbled upon this, and felt it was so wrong I had to make a film about it.

self-funded film, made from the heart.

Can it be taken back?

Great Article!
I do feel, however, that Perms are very Damaging. My hair is Very Long, NATURAL..Free of Relaxer or Extensions...yet I visit the Salon Once per week to get my Hair Washed & Styled. So how does that eliminate the need for Stylists?
