Parents of slain Spelman student sues Clark Atlanta University

The parents of Jasmine Lynn, the Spelman College sophmore shot and killed by a stray bullet while walking on Clark Atlanta University’s campus is suing the University.  In court documents, it states Lynn’s parents had not intended to bring their daughter home in a box and no amount of money will heal their pain.  However,  they are seeking an undisclosed amount in damages.  They are asking to be paid for the “Value” of her life, economic damages for loss of earning capacity, non-economic damages, and loss of enjoyment of life.

The basis of their lawsuit is Clark Atlanta University should have taken stronger measures in securing their campus from the neighborhoods negative elements.  Both Spelman and Morehouse have taken extreme measures to secure their campuses and to protect their students and visitors.

Divoinni Benton has been charged in her murder.   Naturally, he says he is  not the person who fired the fatal shot.  Another man has been named in the shooting and is being investigated.

The spokesperson for Clark Atlanta University has not made a statement at this time.

There is definitely going to be a lot of zeros and commas in this lawsuit.   If you have ever been on the Clark Atlanta University you must admit the parents make a good point.  The neighborhood around the University is horrible and the campus is wide open.  They definitely need to find a better way to secure their campus.  However, it is not felt beefed up security could have stopped a stray bullet.
